About the event

Reading Women Book Club Next One: Tuesday 4th September, 1-2pm (And every first Tuesday of the month) Reading Room, Sheffield Central Library

Inspired by Joanna Walsh’s Twitter campaign #readwomen, and as part of campaigns to give women writers more prominence, including our Year of Publishing Women, we’ve launched Reading Women, a reading group dedicated to some of the most extraordinary recent literary writing by women.

The And Other Stories team meet on the first Tuesday of almost every month at 1pm in the Reading Room at Sheffield Central Library. Do join us – we would love to meet you and hear your thoughts. (Men are welcome too.) The next date for your diaries is Tuesday 4th September. We’ll be reading Norah Lange’s People in the Roomtranslated by Charlotte Whittle and one of our own titles.

We alternate And Other Stories titles with a range of other brilliant books by women writers from across the world. So far we have read Joanna Walsh’s Worlds from the Word’s End, Meena Kandasamy’s When I Hit You and Alicia Kopf’s Brother in Ice and Preti Taneja’s We That Are Young.

What’s more, we’d love to support other reading groups around the UK (or the world!) focusing on women authors. From February, we’ll be offering the first And Other Stories titles we’ll be reading – Joanna Walsh’s Worlds from the Word’s End, Ann Quin’s The Unmapped Country and Alicia Kopf’s Brother in Iceas a discounted bundle. And bookshops and group organisers: get in touch if you want some prompts for discussion!

Reading Women is open to all – do join us.
