We’re thrilled to announce the winners of And Other Stories’ most recent translation sample competition, which ran last month in partnership with the 2015 cityuniversitylondon translation summer school, ‘Translate in the City’.
Our aim is to give translators starting out a chance to be discovered. While we can’t promise anything, each year we have run this, winners have found themselves working on translations for us, including Zoë Perry on Rodrigo de Souza Leão’s All Dogs are Blue, Julia Sanches on Susana Moreira Marques’ Now and at the Hour of our Death, and Jennifer Higgins on Emmanuelle Pagano’s Nouons-nous, which we’re publishing next year once we’ve worked out its title in English. We’re always on the lookout for brilliant new translators.
We provided excerpt texts from books we’re considering in five languages: French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. We had strong entries in all five languages, and the winners are:
French winner: Margaret Besser; and special commendations go to: Nathalia Chomel-Doe and Mélanie Mauthner
German: Caroline Waight
Italian: Claire Davis; and special commendations go to: Emma Mandley and Marinella Mezzanotte.
Portuguese: Tom Gatehouse
Spanish: Andreea Tudose
Congratulations to all of you!
