Publishing. Traditionally – with a twist.
Unsure what And Other Stories is? Some people have asked us if we’re self-publishers or if we pay advances and royalties. Let’s clear this up once and for all! Self-publishers are authors who publish their own books. Vanity publishers take authors’ money to publish their books. That’s not us.
We do everything a traditional publisher does (we choose the best titles we can find to publish from many UK and international subscriptions, we pay authors advances and royalties, we sell in bookshops with proper repping and distribution) but with a twist: we’re reviving the 18th century advance subscription model to make sure we can pay authors and translators properly ahead of publication (even in years without a The Man Booker Prize for Fiction shortlistee!) – and we’re running reading groups to hear what great international fiction we should publish.
