Third Floor, No Elevator
‘I’ve always preferred collecting postcards of places that are nearby, rather than faraway. I have one at home of the street I lived on in Lisbon right after I moved back from London. It’s not so much a memento as a note to myself, a reminder of how far I’ve had to travel to more or less stay in the same place.’
From a flat in Lisbon, Moreira Marques weaves together the elements of her relationship to the city she calls home, branching out into the various spaces she has inhabited – places defined by desire, missed connections, books, late-night parties, growing children, love and memories once thought lost. At its heart are moments of seeing: from a balcony, a window, or through a digital screen, and of turning the gaze inwards, in moments of rare quietude.
