Three Chinese-language novels have piqued the interest of some translators from Chinese. They decided to organise an And Other Stories reading group to talk about them as well as other Chinese-language fiction readers have discovered. There will be monthly meetings in Beijing, Shanghai and London.
The books included in the Chinese reading group so far are: Han Dong’s Gu Jieming – A Life, Chi Wei-Jan’s Private Eyes and Lu Nei’s Young Babylon.
As always, your suggestions on other titles to include in future reading groups is welcome – simply email us at info@andotherstories.org with your tips!
We hope you’ll join us in reading these books. Add your comments to the author pages and we’d love to see you at one of our meet-ups if you can come. Thanks to your discussion online or in person, one or more of these books might make it into English. The main thing for now is the pleasure of a good talk about some hotly tipped books.
How it works

-
- Extracts in English are being added to this website where possible – see the relevant author’s page. To request copies, email info@andotherstories.org with ‘Chinese reading group’ in the subject line, saying which book you would like to read.
- Read the excerpts, then comment online via the author pages.
- Come to a meet-up (in Beijing, Shanghai or London) to discuss what has been read. You can be sure of a lively and well-informed discussion.
