About the event
How do we regain trust after violence?
Usman Khan was convicted for terrorism-related offences at age 20 and sent to high security prison. He was released on a point of law nine years later. On 29 November 2019, at an event in London marking the fifth anniversary of Learning Together, the Cambridge University prison education programme he participated in, he killed two people, Jack Merritt and Saskia Jones. Preti Taneja taught Khan creative writing in prison as part of Learning Together; Jack Merritt was her colleague.
Aftermath offers words for unspeakable loss and public tragedy. In the face of despair and hopelessness, Preti Taneja writes towards a politics of hope through a determined dream of abolition.
