About the event

Join two  of France’s leading authors, Jean-Baptiste Del Amo and Olivia Rosenthal for an evening discussing their latest works published in the UK on the 16th May 2019!

ANIMALIA by Jean-Baptiste Del Amo retraces the history of a modest peasant family through the twentieth century as they develop their small plot of land into an intensive pig farm. Written in shifting prose that reflects the passage of time, ANIMALIA is a powerful novel about man’s desire to conquer nature and the transmission of violence from one generation to the next.

To Leave with the Reindeer by Olivia Rosenthal is the account of a woman who has been trained for a life she cannot live. She readies herself for freedom, and questions its limits, by exploring how humans relate to animals. Rosenthal weaves an intricate pattern, combining the central narrative with many other voices – vets, farmers, breeders, trainers, a butcher – to produce a polyphonic composition full of fascinating and disconcerting insights.

Join us to meet the authors, discuss their contemporary French literature and asks questions- a glass of wine will be offered on entry.
