Biography

Charlotte Whittle is a British-American writer, editor, and literary translator. Her writing and translations have appeared in The Literary Review, Los Angeles Times, Guernica, Electric Literature, BOMB, Granta, the Paris Review, and elsewhere. Her translation of Argentine Modernist classic People in the Room by Norah Lange was longlisted for the Best Translated Book Award and shortlisted for the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation and the Society of Authors First Translation Prize. She translates a range of Spanish and Latin American writers, including Jorge Comensal, Elisa Victoria, and Irene Vallejo; she won the 2023 Queen Sofía Translation Prize for Vallejo’s Papyrus: The Invention of Books in the Ancient World. For several years, she edited bilingual editions of Latin American poetry and ran cartonera bookmaking workshops at Cardboard House Press. Charlotte writes fiction set in England and Utah, and divides her time between Norwich and New York.
