Deborah Levy at the London Review Bookshop

Deborah Levy will be talking twice at the London Review Bookshop this winter:

22nd January 2015 – Han Kang and Deborah Levy in conversation with Deborah Smith

Portobello Books presents Han Kang and Deborah Levy in conversation with Deborah Smith.

To celebrate the of launch of Han Kang’s beautiful, unsettling novel The Vegetarian, Portobello Books presents the celebrated Korean author in conversation with her translator Deborah Smith and Booker-shortlisted author Deborah Levy (Black Vodka, Swimming Home). Han Kang has won the Yi Sang Literary Prize, the Today’s Young Artist Award, and the Korean Literature Novel Award. Fraught, disturbing and beautiful, The Vegetarian is a novel about modern day South Korea, but also a novel about shame, desire and our faltering attempts to understand others, from one imprisoned body to another.

Tickets are free but limited and booking is essential.

24 February 2015 – Making It Up: Kirsty Gunn and Deborah Levy

Short stories don’t have to be like short stories. They can be experiences, visitations, slices of events or part revelations of a truth or a lie.

Kirsty Gunn and Deborah Levy will discuss how they go about making up their own short fiction and the influence of modernism in their recent collections Infidelities and Black Vodka.
