All Dogs are Blue by Rodrigo de Souza Leão will be published on 1st August in the UK. To mark the occasion we would like to hold a live video discussion event hosted by Shindig that will bring together three people who felt strongly that All Dogs are Blue should be translated into English – our publisher, Stefan Tobler, our editor Sophie Lewis, and Zoe Perry who co-translated the book with Stefan.
Rodrigo de Souza Leão was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1965 and died in a psychiatric clinic in Rio in 2008, shortly after his extraordinary autobiographical novel All Dogs are Blue was published. Due to his mental fragility, Rodrigo de Souza Leão rarely left his house and yet he used social media, blogging and email a lot, becoming close friends with a large number of Brazilian writers and poets who hold him in high regard today.
Sophie will chair a 20 min discussion between the translators and then we will open the event to questions from the audience. With both translators available we hope there will be a particular focus on the challenges of translating this remarkable book from Portuguese into English.
